"Bass Invader" - Martin Motniks bass solo CD with Gregg Bissonette and Mattias IA Eklundh

It is a great pleasure for me to present my first bass solo CD entitled "Bass Invader"! "Bass Invader" is a CD on which I tried to play complete songs, usually played with several different instruments like guitars or keyboards, only with bass guitars. I think it worked out quite well, but on some songs I missed one thing which usually should build one unit together with the bass: real drums!! During the preparations for the "Bass Invader" recordings, I could win a real icon for the drum parts: drummer legend Gregg Bissonette! If somebody should not know who this expert is, check out his credit list below. All I can say is: this guy is a star all around the world!

My original plan was to reproduce everything with bass and drums. But on the Musikmesse 2005, I met Swedish guitarist extraordinaire Mattias "IA" Eklundh, who plays a very unique - or freaky - style.  My first thought was, this style would perfectly fit on my CD, and so I asked him to appear as a guest star. He instantly agreed. Now you can hear some guitars as well, at least on two songs. And so I started recording the tracks for "Bass Invader" in January 2005, which are now completed in July 2005. If you click on Audio, you can listen into every song of the CD. Please check out the link "Order CD" ...

Info page for media and press

Though I think that a personal web site should be entertaining and not deadly serious, there are certainly situations where you should show that you're taking your work serious nevertheless. So I added an info page which contains all relevant info about me - like biography, references, discography, endorsements or web sites - on one single page. I hope to make the work of press representatives a little bit easier. If I forgot something important, please inform me!

Who is Gregg Bissonette?

Gregg Bissonette is one of L.A.'s hottest studio and live drummers. His credit list features performances with Ringo Starr, James Taylor, David Lee Roth, Joe Satriani, Toto, Brian Wilson, Electric Light Orchestra, Andy Summers, Linda Ronstadt, Gino Vanelli and legendary Carlos Santana, and some of the most famous recordings he played on are The Counting Crowes' (featuring Vanessa Carlton) single "Big Yellow Taxi", Carlos Santana's CD "Supernatural" (which won 11 Grammy Awards), Don Henley's CD "Inside Job", Duran Duran's CD "Pop Trash", Larry Carlton/Steve Lukather "Live in Japan" and certainly David Lee Roth's CDs "Eat 'em and smile" and "Skyscraper" featuring Steve Vai and my mentor/teacher/role model Billy Sheehan. Wow, I never dreamed I would play together with the same drummer like Billy... Ok, I think that's enough to explain Gregg's expertise, if you want to learn more about him, check out his web site on www.greggbissonette.com. His drumming is phenomenal, and he added much spirit and his personal note to the tracks, so you can say "Bass Invader" is his solo CD as well. Drum fans will get their money's worth! I still can't believe that I played together with a real drummer legend on my own CD, and I'm very proud and honored!

Who is Mattias IA Eklundh?

A special feature for guitar fans - and a further honor for me - is the appearance of another star on my CD: Swedish guitar player extraordinaire Mattias "IA" Eklundh! Mattias is today considered one of the most innovative and ground breaking guitar players around with a fast growing global following from fellow "guitar nerds" to simply true music freaks. Mattias’ minimalist, home-brewed, and stripped down approach to the guitar has surprised record buyers and journalists around the world. There simply aren’t any signs of expensive guitar effects or processors involved in his playing, despite the sometimes "outlandish" sounds you hear. (Mattias receives e-mails daily from dedicated guys and gals asking him what type of whammy pedal he owns. He finds this very amusing). Still, the unorthodox Swede occasionally uses anything from hose-clips to remote controls and a few other devices (not suitable for printing) to stimulate the listeners hearing organs. Mattias can be heard on "Bass Invader" on the opening song "Bee on speed" playing a very zany chorus melody. Furthermore he takes part on a highlight of the CD, a new version of the Rush hit "YYZ", which is now played by the trio Eklundh/Motnik/Bissonette. Mattias goes far over the edge of usual guitar playing and creates total new sounds, especially through his own high pitch harmonics technique. Plus he has a great sense of humor and he is a very nice and reliable guy. To have him on "Bass Invader" is a very big enrichment! BTW, the nickname IA is, pure and simple, an abbreviation of Mattias!

And who is Martin Motnik?

Hmm, good question... Well, maybe it's best to give it a look at my biography page. And if there are further questions, just ask me... But bas(s)ically I'm just a guy who likes it to produce deep frequencies!
