Current projects
Since time is flying by like crazy, I was
thinking it was about time for a little update about how I spend my
time. Kai Brant and I are currently in the studio, recording our
first full-length CD of
Beauty and
the Bass. Although the main focus will still be on vocals and
upright bass, we will have a couple of guest musicians on our album,
and we are also experimenting with sounds and loops, to make the
whole CD more interesting and diverse.
Besides that I am writing on my first
instructional book for bass guitar, based on my CD "Bass
Invader". It will be a book for advanced bass players, and I
will explain the different techniques I was using on my CD,
including 3 and 4 finger tapping, hammered and pinch harmonics
(natural and artificial), playing with chords, and more. It will
also include a full transcription of my version of the "Simpsons
Theme", showing all 26 bass tracks I was recording. D'oh!
Also quite time consuming was the preparation of
my Green Card paperwork. I understand that the U.S. government wants
to protect their country, however I feel like I made a crash course
in immigration law. In the end, the stack of papers was about 3
inches thick, and I am very thankful for all the forums and websites
that give comprehensive information about which forms have to be to
filed. So if the musical career doesn't continue, maybe I can become
an immigration lawyer. But aren't there too many lawyers in the
world already...?
Ok, so much for a quick update. More to come
soon.

Time flies by...
Wow, I can't believe it's almost three months since I updated this
web site the last time. I apologize for the lack of news. To stop
this negligence at least a little bit, here's what happened in the
last couple of months.
New bass and new project - "Beauty and the
Bass"
I thought it was about time to go back to the
roots of bass playing. So I went ahead and finally got me an upright
bass. But to bring a modern touch to this traditional instrument, I
got the bass in white! It's a real challenge to play it, since it is
a very physical instrument (I consider my practice time also being a
part of my workout *LOL*). But it is a lot of fun! And to give it
the right use, I started a new project with the fantastic singer Kai
Brant, where we play sultry jazz with vocals and upright bass only.
We call it "Beauty and the Bass". By the way: I am the bass... ;-)
On
www.beautybassjazz.com you can hear audio samples and watch a
couple of videos. Please enjoy!

New Uli Jon Roth dates
I am very happy that Uli Jon Roth will be playing
a few more shows in the U.S., and that I will be playing with him
again. I think that means I didn't play too many wrong notes during
our tour last fall! ;-) We will be playing some rocking
Scorpions classics, songs from his Electric Sun days and lots of
Hendrix. Confirmed dates so far are:
June 16th - Clubhouse, Tempe, AZ
June 18th - Galaxy Theatre, Santa Ana, CA
June 20th - Brixton, Redondo Beach, CA
June 23rd - Orange Blossom Junction, Exeter, CA
June 25th - Brick by Brick, San Diego, CA
I hope to see you there!
Gallien-Krueger video clips on
ArtistRelations.com
ArtistRelations.com specializes in endorsement
branding between musical artists, producers, and engineers of all
musical genres and well-known gear manufacturers.
ArtistRelations.com also works with Gallien-Krueger, and during the
Bass Player Live convention last November, I have been asked to give
a short video statement about the GK gear I am using.
Please click here to get to the website and check out the videos
(I made one in English AND one in German!). Where it says
"Testimonials by Artist or Band", please scroll down to my name.
Wow, they have a lot of names...
StudioBassist.com website improved
My other website
www.StudioBassist.com recently received some improvement. I
added some pictures of my studio and more audio samples, and I
improved the design a little bit (at least I hope I did...). Please
check it out and send me your feedback.
14. January 2009
Hello
everybody,
I know it's
already a few days old, but I still want to wish all of you a happy,
healthy and successful new year 2009! May all your dreams come true
and all your wishes be fulfilled!
Here's a
quick news update about what's going on (a little new year's
resolution of mine...).
Preparing for the NAMM show
The most important trade fair for musical
instruments, the NAMM show, starts again tomorrow. I will certainly
be there, and I am sure it's going to be four very interesting and
intense days and nights. I will take lots of pictures, and I hope I
will be able to write a report about it next week.
CD release Eleanor Academia/The Black Swan -
"When you live" on January 18, 2009
Some of you might remember my concert last summer
with Eleanor Academia at the Gibson Center in Beverly Hills, CA,
where we presented Eleanor's new CD "When you live" (with Ray Parker
Jr. as a guest musician, since Eleanor is her keyboarder; we even
played his biggest hit "Ghostbusters"). The CD is going to be
officially available on January 18th, 2009. Read
Eleanors MySpace blog for all details about the CD, the
contributing A-list musicians and where to get the CD.
GrabAxe secures your instrument against
crashing
Just recently did I get an interesting new
invention into my hands. It is
GrabAxe, a very
compact guitar holding system that protects your instrument against
falling on the ground. A piece of nylon strap is hooked up to a grip
on your amp or box, and when you put the other end around the neck
of your guitar and secure it with the attached Velcro tape, you can
lean your instrument against your amp without having the fear of
seeing your precious instrument sliding along the amp and crashing
down. Not even a kick against the guitar can make it drop (but
please do not try it out!). A very handy and inexpensive protection
against expensive damages!

Happy New Year!
I would like to thank all my friends, fans,
partners and endorsing companies for a fantastic year of 2008! It
has probably been the most intense one in my life, and I am very
happy about everything that has happened in my musical life. I am
optimistic that the new year will hold a lot of great things, and I
wish all of you lots of luck, success, health and happiness! May
2009 become your best year so far!
Author for BassMagazine.nl
Dutch online bass magazine
www.bassmagazine.nl asked me to contribute as an author for
articles and workshops. So just recently, they published my first
article which is a review about the bass convention BassPlayer LIVE!
in Los Angeles that took place on November 1st and 2nd.
