Thanks a lot for this great review! |
MARTIN MOTNIK Bass Invader Martin Motnik is a very unusual guy: His most noticeable stations in his musical career by now (for me and each metal head) are a hit single with "Worlds Apart" and the sound track to the TV series "Hospital under palms". Oh, and he is the bassist of DARKSEED. That alone would not be a reason to insert the CD into the player. Therefore we write thickly and fat "YYZ" on it - that's right, the "Rush" instrumental song, which here is celebrated extremely beautifully with the guest musicians Gregg Bissonette and IA Eklundh (Freak Kitchen). I can feel my hands getting wet as they float over the CD. So let's go! After around 20 turns of the CD, I still don't have enough. (Almost) ALL alleged guitars were shredded, picked, slapped and probably even nailed only with bass guitars, from the piccolo bass to the drop tuned double bass. The compositions are not limited to any borders, the spectrum, as mentioned above, reaches from stamping funk over metal to Spanish folklore, and everything is played very skillfully. Martin is (a further plus) also nobody who brags with (existing) ability, but he lets it flash out every here and there, so that you only really notice it when your fingers start to hurt when you try to play along. Also a kick ass idea is to cover the Simpsons Theme, very originally, up to now we had it only by "Dream Theater", but here only with bass! One word to the companions of this exceptional CD: not to know Gregg Bissonette, at least of hearsay, would mean that you have never dealt with playing drums in your whole life, Mattias IA Eklundh is not only with FREAK KITCHEN, but one of the most innovative string sorcerer; harmonics and excessive use of the tremolo bar which results in very squeaky tones are his field of expertise and his completely own style. If you have "Soilwork's" "Natural born chaos" rolling around somewhere, he has an appearance on "No More Angels". Positively also the fact that this is not the kind of instrumental CDs that frustrates beginners, and also without singing is thoroughly consumable. "Pretty nice" would be the the understatement of the century. Here, somebody put a lot of work into it. Both thumbs up! PoT |
