Thanks a lot for this great review! |
Martin Motnik with Gregg Bissonette Bass Invader The best friend of a drummer is certainly the bass player, and here two friends (even three on two songs) came together to produce a CD with 14 tracks. But not together, in fact like many people do it these days, every one in his own studio. The result is 8 songs of pure bass guitar, 6 songs including drums and two valorized by crazy Swedish guitarist Mattias IA Eklundh. Martin shows which amazing sounds you can get out of a bass guitar, and proves his talent as a composer, since 9 of the songs are written by himself, one song is by Matchbox Twenty, one from Explorer's Club, one from Racer X and a great version of "YYZ" (... yes, the song from Rush). And then, as a tribute to Martin's heroes, there's the "Simpson's theme". Gregg Bissonette impresses again with a powerful groove, precise double bass passages and elaborated fills. A little hint: the 8 bass-only songs are great to play along and do it like Gregg - it gives you a great opportunity to arrange your own drum part. You'll hardly find a better musical "best friend" as a drummer than Martin Motnik. A really great CD! RM |
